Absentee Voting in 2020

Starting July 6, you can request an absentee ballot for the November 3 general election.

The ballots will not be mailed until October 5, but you can submit your request today and track the status of your ballot at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website. Unless you plan to change addresses between now and election day, you can start this absentee voting process now.

To submit your request in Poweshiek County, print and fill out this form from the Secretary of State’ site and mail it to

Poweshiek County Auditor, PO Box 57, Montezuma, IA 50171

We recommend mailing your absentee ballot request by Saturday, October 17 to ensure that it is received in time for processing at the Auditor’s Office. We recommend that you mail in absentee ballots by Saturday, October 31 to ensure they are received at the Auditor’s Office in time to be counted on Election Day.

If you have questions about absentee voting, contact the Poweshiek County Auditor at 641-623-5443 or contact us at poweshiekdems@gmail.com.

We encourage everyone who to vote absentee during this election at the time of COVID-19. It makes things safer for you, for poll workers, and for the people who do have to vote in person for some reason.
