DESCRIPTION:Obama for America Iowa announced that President Obama will hold the May 24th grassroots event at the Paul R. Knapp Animal Learning Center at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Thursday’s event is the President’s first campaign grassroots event in Iowa of this election cycle. \nThe grassroots event is open to the public\, and no tickets are required. Space will be first come\, first served. Doors will open at 4:30 PM CST. The address for the Iowa State Fairgrounds is 3000 East Grand Ave.\, Des Moines\, IA 50317\, and guests should enter using the main entrance to the fair grounds at the intersection of East 30th St. and East Grand Ave. \n“We are excited President Obama is coming back to host a grassroots event in Iowa\,” said State Treasurer Mike Fitzgerald. “In Iowa\, we have seen firsthand the choice in November as the President is fighting for the middle class and creating a pro-growth economy that is built to last and Mitt Romney\, whose economic theories are based on outsourcing and tax breaks for the wealthy and biggest corporations that undercut middle class Iowans.”

DESCRIPTION:Our next meeting will be Tuesday\, May 22\, at Pagliai’s Pizza\, 816 5th Ave.\, Grinnell. As usual\, optional dining at 6 p.m.; business meeting at 7 p.m. \nOur guest speakers will be: \n\nIowa Senator (District #38) Tom Rielly\nIowa Senate District # 38 Candidates:\n\nShelley Parbs\nLaForest Sherman\nNick Volk\n\n\nThese candidates will be “making closing arguments”\, bringing yard signs and Volunteer Sign-up Sheets to engage us in their campaigns.  Be ready to sign up and pitch in! \nOne item of Old Business to be addressed will be the upcoming summer parades and festivals throughout the county.  At our last meeting\, we briefly discussed new ways of doing these events—bicycle “posse”\, golf carts\, ATV’s\, floats\, tractor & flatbed trailer\, etc.  PLEASE be thinking of a novel way to attend these events as well as making it easier on our participants!  Remember Grinnell’s “death march” from Donaldson’s\, through town and on to Ahrens Park!  And the oh\, not so friendly Brooklyn hills and vales (LOOKS flat\, but it AIN’T!) \nTwo of the towns have “themes”—Montezuma: “Stars and Stripes Forever”;  Grinnell: “An Inventor’s Paradise”.  Most of you have children or grandchildren who may come up with some “groovy” ideas so we can have some fun with this! \nLuckily for all of us\, the festivities are a bit more spaced than previous years\, so we will have a short breather between performances.  We really need to be out in full force with placards for all of our Democratic candidates!  This is NOT the time to fold our sails and crawl off into obscurity!
